“Going green,” eco-friendly,” “organic” . . . these are just a few of the buzzwords floating around these days. But what do they mean to each of us? Simply put, turning green is changing to a lifestyle of purchasing, consuming, and living in ways that protect the integrity of the environment in which we all must live and respecting God, ourselves, and others enough to make that change. You can crossover immediately by doing a thorough house cleaning to rid your home of all environmentally harmful products and replace them with eco-friendly consumer goods. Or you can convert gradually, or only partially, by doing a few simple things to help the environment. Here are a few examples of how you can begin a green lifestyle: recycle buy organic products go paperless, or use recycled paper turn off and unplug appliances when not in use turn down the heat thermostat by two degrees lower water heater temperature to 120 degrees install a low-flow shower head use fluorescent instead of incandescent light bulbs wash clothes in cold water use alternatives to dryer sheets opt for fresh air instead of using aerosol air fresheners car pool shop using all-natural totes instead of store plastic bags Let’s all work together to make our planet safe and more pleasant for everyone by doing our part, no matter how big or small.
